The finish turns even sweeter, sugar cane, caramelized sugar. The 1980 18-year-old Macallan is generally regarded as the last 18-year-old from the truly classic era of the distillery. The palate is smooth, a slight bitterness. Why did I let go of the other bottle I found of this? I must be a very nice, super-awesome human being. A 100% hits-the-spot-when-you-want-a-sherried-whisky-whisky. Now you can explore and enjoy the same sensations in aroma and flavour and experience some of the discoveries made at The Macallans whisky making bench. Instead, it ends arguably prematurely, but rather than that being a disappointment, it makes me just want another tasty sip. Each individual cask selected by The Macallan Whisky Makers was chosen for its distinctive characteristics. Finish is medium-length, but the best part - part of the reason being that the intensity here doesn't "stick" too long and get annoying. It's quite sweet sherry, and this is one of the sweeter whiskies I've tasted. Along with lots of great, sweet, rich sherry, which dominates the palate. The nose is caramel-sherry bliss and the palate delivers on that promise. Palate is a bit lighter than the nose suggests. Wow!� Glad I have another bottle of this in my collection!� I may have to go touch it inappropriately after writing this review.�Ī heavy sherry bomb but soft raisins and a classic floral perfume that says pre-'90s Macallan. P: A very unusual profile for Macallan (in my experience), still on the dry side but the typical chocolate is replaced with BBQ and venison, moo shoo pork (with requisite plum sauce), and.į: I swear there's some peat in here!� Or a convincing impostor!�
